The title is dedicated to all of the participating 7-11 stores who went ahead with the "free Slurpee" promotion. Because a Friday just isn't complete without a Slurpee to quench your thirst with. So in honor of the day, I deem the title of the entry promotional and will tell you what's coming up in a report of the track. A review of what happened on Friday includes a red flag, the further mention of a new rule (both in the same race), and there's a preview of what's coming up on Friday... The weekly on-track program may have to take a back seat. All of that comes right now.
These are going to be semi-editions of Cliff Notes recaps, gang. I won't put down just the bare bones of what happened, but I'll include the stuff you'll need to know.
DARE Stocks: The race with the fewest cautions of the evening (two), with one of them coming by way of a possible blown engine. Cue the speedy dry, I know. But that was taken care of, the race went on -- with the second caution coming on the lap right after -- and it was eventually won by Don Wood. Second win of his career; first of the season. The rest of the board read as follows: Dan Flannery, Scott Roy, and Todd LaPorta.
SK Lights: This was the only race of the evening to see a red flag after a two-car accident occured coming out of turn two. And it was the first feature to see that new "lap down" and "lucky rule" issued. The strange thing about the latter is that both happened before one full lap was completed! Six yellows and one red later, it was another first time winner in victory lane. This time, it was Chris Bakaj taking down the win, followed by Tony Santangelo, Joe Allegro, Jr, and Chris Matthews.
Late Models: Another crazy finish in this one. Not one, but two front runners were sent to the back of the field for rough riding. Two yellows in the lap before last and the last lap set the stage for the dramatics to fly. The move(s) of the race went to Ryan Posocco in this, after he not only was able to get around a lap car on the outside on the backstretch, but also for his move to win the race coming out of four. Brian Chapin was second, followed by Mike Quintiliano and Michael Bennett.
SK Modifieds: Much calmer race than in the past weeks. Only three cautions in this one. But the real story was the number of lead changes between Kenny Horton, Doug Coby, and Keith Rocco. The three of them battled for position, leaving Rocco to spin and then get the car going again without the yellow coming out. But his shot at winning had ended at this point. Horton and Coby were left to duel, and it was Horton winning his first race of the season. Coby, Zach Sylvester, and Woody Pitkat finished off the board.
Limited Late Models: Tied with the SK Lights for "most cautions in the features" for this past week with six. Included one lead change and just about plenty of action otherwise. In the end, however, Sean Foster was able to hold off Charlie Newman to collect his second win of the season. Third and fourth were Michael Chaves and Darrin Havanec.
And, well... That's it. Nothing else has to be said about this night in question. I shall tell you that we've got a regular week coming up for Friday. No special stuff going on; none of that extra stuff included. Though all of this stuff on the track could possibly be the second headline on the card. Just in case you guys are wondering why I'm trying to put the track stuff on the backburner, I'd like to mention that I had done something up for the Pitstopper last week, and it should (will?) be in this week's edition. So if you spend the five dollars on the program, please don't hesitate to see my work. It has something to do with something that was mentioned during the July 4 event, but that's all I'm going to tell you. To find out more about this, please check it out.
Now this is where I slip through the back door. See you Friday. Stay safe and dry.
